Q: When should I use DermLook?

A: DermLook is a convenient, cost-effective alternative to an in-office visit for non-emergent conditions of the skin, hair or nails.

  • If you are traveling or live in a remote area without a dermatologist in the community
  • When you want a second opinion regarding a condition of the skin, hair or nails
  • If the wait for a dermatology appointment is longer than you want to wait
  • In inclement weather
  • When young children or other persons in your care make traveling to the dermatologist’s office inconvenient

Q: What types of dermatological issues can be addressed via DermLook?

Q: Who will perform my consultation?

A: Our doctors are Medical Doctors and Doctors of Osteopathy who practice full-time in our Oregon and Washington clinics. Doctors are licensed in the state that you reside. Meet them here.

Q: How much is a consultation and what does it include?

A: A DermLook consultation is $59, payable by major credit card. A consultation is limited to one dermatological concern. Your doctor will provide:

  • Diagnosis
  • Treatment plan
  • Prescription, if necessary

You can also communicate with your doctor if you have questions about the diagnosis, treatment plan or prescription provided.

Q: How do I take the best photo?

A: In most cases, a well-lit, good quality photograph or two of your skin condition are enough for one of our doctors to make an accurate diagnosis. If a doctor feels that the photographs are insufficient however, he/she may request additional photographs or recommend that you see a local dermatologist face-to-face. Please note: you will not receive a refund even if the dermatologist recommends that you follow up with an office visit.

Q: How long do I have to wait for a response?

A: You will receive a response from one of our doctors within ____.  You will be notified by email when the response is ready to be viewed in the DermLook app.

Q: What if I need a biopsy or a procedure?

A: If a biopsy or any other procedure is recommend for your condition, we will assist you in scheduling you an appointment at our nearest clinic, or a dermatologist in your area.

Q: What about follow-ups?

A: If you have a question about any of the recommendations or medicines we prescribe, please contact us. To submit a follow-up consultation, you must upload new photos of your skin and answer a few questions about your experiences with the medications you have been using. Your dermatologist will perform a new examination and either refill your prescription or create a new treatment plan if he or she decides that you would benefit from a new medication. A follow-up costs $59, the same as the initial consultation.

Q: Is my information kept private?

A: We treat information submitted online with the same care as electronic medical records in our office. Your photographs and medical record are stored in an encrypted form that meets the standards defined by HIPAA.
